Barb began her career with ARC-CSS in January 1978 in the Work Activity program. Since her employment, Barb has been responsible for a wide range of duties, including serving as a Developmental Training Supervisor, Intake and Evaluation Specialist, Safety Director, Case Coordinator, and a QMRP. She was promoted to Director of the Residential program in January 1990. At that time the Department consisted of one group home, a small scattered site program, and 14 employees. Today the program has 40 employees and provides support to 40 individuals at four group homes and more than 20 others in private homes and apartments throughout the county. In addition to housing, training and support in the areas of vocational, community living, social and personal living skills are also provided.
A native of Olney, Illinois, Barb attended Olney Community College for one year before transferring to McKendreee College in Lebanon, Illinois. She graduated Cum Laude with a major in Psychology and a minor in Psychology. She and her husband Ron moved to Effingham in 1977. They have three children and one grandchild.
Barb developed programs for senior citizens with the Embarrass River Basin Agency before taking a position with the Olney Opportunity Center where her commitment to people with disabilities was born.
Barb not only enjoys the challenge that providing service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year brings, she also enjoys knowing each day will be unpredictable and exciting.
